Cakes made by theTPLH

The Bakery

Email us for pricing, below are images of past bakes.

The Pretty Collection

These are just a few of the cakes we have made for clients who just wanted something beautiful and tasty. The possibilities are endless as to what we can create, some are a mix of sponge cake, butter cream, fresh cream, fruit, chocolate and biscuits.

The Wedding Collection

These are a few of the wedding cakes we have created over the last few years. Your wedding cake can be as simple as having some flowers cascading down the tiers, or it can be a themed cake like the Pixar Toy Story cake featured above. The possibilities are endless!

The Themed Cakes

We tend to have more requested for themed cakes, my most favourite to date is the Pig cake, which was made along side making the Garfield Cake (that was a busy couple of days as you can imagine). Again, the possibilities are endless, if you email us with a request we can discuss what is possible and work out the cost from there as each cake is individual. And yes, that is an edible gruesome foot, which was a birthday cake for a foot hater.

Jodi Taylor and binge worthy fiction

Just One Damned Thing After Another (The Chronicles of St. Mary's ...

Ive had my Kindle since Christmas 2012. Don’t judge me as I still love a good old fashioned book with a mug of tea on a rainy chill out day, but having a kindle has sent my reading addiction sky high and I’m never coming back down to a book-less life.

The first book I read on this marvellous device was The Hobbit by J.R.R.Tolkien, which is another post to write about on another day. Since August 2013 I have been a massive fan of author Jodi Taylor. Il be honest, the title ‘Just one damned thing after another’ was all I needed and it was free. However 32 books later and I don’t care that I’m paying full price now, as long as Taylor keeps on writing she will be having my money and my mind!

Jodi Taylors writing is fresh and contemporary, you’ve got a pinch of suspense, and a dash of romance, the comedy factor is so high you will cry on so many levels. As soon as you’ve read the first page you are already hooked and not wanting to put the book down. While reading this I’ve come to the conclusion that readers can actually “binge read” books like they would watch an entire series in one sitting on the tv. Can not wait for the next book.

I cannot recommend this author enough, just go read all her books!

The teapot Lighthouse: the beginning

Your probably wondering how the title for the website came about?

Well it began on a dark night in over cramped office… (couldn’t resist). I wanted something thats sums me up as a person but was catchy enough and would spark imagination. I love tea and teapots id always seem to find a way to bring one of them into my Art degree, which im sure my tutors didnt appreciate.

When myself and christopher got married in 2014 we put on an exhibition in the theatres gallery. For this I painted a triptych (which is a set of images that hang together as a set of three, if you didnt know already) of teapot lighthouse, I feel they are my best work to date. This triggered our imagination as to how many other combo ideas we could come up with, and how we would create a website to showcase our work and blogs.

Our latest creation is coming up with image thats sums us up and looks great, below is the latest idea which we really want to get created into a neon light sign for our office.

The new and latest image for The Teapot Lighthouse
  • Its iconic red, white and black for lighthouses (most people if asked to describe a lighthouse would say white with red stripes).
  • The type is fluid and visually appealing, working well in and of the 3 colour combos.
  • I can’t remember the other point, other than I just love it and thats all that matters.

“If only I had the time” she said.

Everyone has a hobby or an interest they wish to pursue but never seem to get around doing it. Its the “I just need some free time” or “il do that one day”.

Southwold and its quirky bits

Every time I visit Southwold (about once a year) I still find something new and exciting to motivate me and make me want to investigate further.

Whenever I visit a location that has creativity involved I will always take with me a notebook and pen so as to remind my self of my new discoveries. 50% of the time I find no internet link to the artists or designer I am looking for, which is a shame with most of the world being digital and fully engaged with the world wide web; But hey ho they lose out on being mentioned on here.

The first artist on my list is Chrissy Norman with her etchings of the seaside and trees, the colours that she uses are romantic in a way as if trying to tell the viewer a story or what will happen next in the still image. This fuels the viewer into wanting to see more of her images and to see if they can find another seen or a clue in background of the image as to what is going to happen in the silent and paused image. http://www.chrissynorman.co.uk/ Her work is found in the Southwold Gallery down the High Street amongst other artists to purchase if one wanted to.

Another mesmerising artist is Tessa Shedley Jordan who paints still life (mainly vegetables) with watercolour, they seems alive on the paper as if one is able to reach in and take a piece to eat. The palate used is very bold and only enhances its freshness from the day it was painted. They are all fairly large allowing the viewer to see the many layers that make up the image presented to them. http://www.tshedleyjordan.co.uk

My favourite finding of the day I have left till last which is local artist Amelia Bowman with her sharp lines and pattern making up seaside imagery, the example I have given below is just the tip of the iceberg on how she manipulates imagery.  Even by using different pattern in the image it still works well, and although the colours are not accurate you still cant stop looking at the image. No more words can discribe how much I love her work, so please just follow the linkhttp://www.ameliabowman.co.uk/index.html

some others which would make a good motivating tool are as follows

Marc Brown – http://www.marc-brown.com/page3.htm

Nicola Hart – http://www.harts-art.co.uk/home

Kate Batchelor – http://www.kate-batchelor.co.uk/index.html

Jill Desborough – she doesn’t have a website as such but can be find by searching for her. In particular her etchings and mrs Thackray are good

Cameron Jace : Kindle

Im going to start by saying this is the first time in years where I have been reading a series of books and love them to the point where I cant put the book/kindle down, to which I have to add I wouldn’t have came across if I didn’t have the kindle. The seires is as gripping as my Harry Potter days where waiting for the next book would seem like a life time, but when it turned up you were hooked again and brought back into the story you found yourself craving madley.

The prequels which I came across first about 3 weeks ago starts with the adaption of the snow white classic version and how it is all lies told by the Brothers Grimm. At first I was a bit dubious and thought oh no I have purchased a gothic vampire series where the author has just gone boom all fairy tale charaters are vampires; but to my surprise the further I read into the short stories the more the author makes connections with history and different versions of the fiary tales we all love and remember. Most of the stories are given a fixed date so the reader can put the character in a time frame and add to their own imagination. You start to route for certian characters without realising and start fearing for them when things take a nasty fairy tale style turn; but they all lead towards the the main series which Jace is writing starting with Snow White in ‘Snow White Sorrow’.

Jace leads you along many different paths and when you think you know what is going on, or a scene is over and complete you find yourself wrong because there is another cliff hanger. I will no tbe givnig anything away because that is a spoiler. I just can not wiat to read the next one and find out what happens next. even though I know he will keep us hanging and build on the suspense to which even though I complain I dont like becuas eof the wait. I absolutely love it!

Now I don’t now what to read next……its very tempting to possible start the journey of Harry Potter from start to finish without a pause of waiting for a book release. but as any avid read knows as soon as you start a series you enjoy nothing will come in your way until the last word is read………

The first of many more

Wedding plans are in the air since I got engaged and I have decided to make my own flowers for the wedding that way I can save money, use them as favours and they last forever while looking pretty. For the last few weeks I have been looking up how to make flowers of different shapes and sizes I the hope I can understand what needs to be done to make them look professional and not just a craft flower Made by a five year old (no offense).
After deciding that ribbon flowers were impossible I started looking up felt flowers which seem more manageable.

However I thought no let’s give it one more try for the ribbon flower and wahlaa I have made a small rose like flower which once I got just was quite good. It was all down to Pinterest and the wonderful Joann Joann, the way Joann explains what to do is understandable and I can now make a rose in different colour and sizes to make my bouquet and other flowers for the wedding

Vermeer and spaces in the Dutch interior

I have been studying the works of Vermeer looking closely at his technique and ways of presenting interior to the viewer. I chose to study Vermeer because his paintings are very realistic and informative of a particular era, that is very different from the way we live today. When I visited the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, I came across Vermeer’s paintings and was surprised by his detailed technique and his tendency to use views through door frames that work like a frame in itself to draw the viewers attention, into the painting to focus the viewer.

Vermeer painted his now famous images in the late 17th century, the age of the Stuart’s. This is demonstrated in his paintings through the style of clothing the subjects are wearing, the decoration and patterns in the interiors, and through the decor. For example hie use of maps and popular imagery of the time, like his reference to pastoral scenes to symbolise sex, as in ‘Women seated at virginal’ and ‘Women standing at virginal’. One of his first paintings, ‘Christ in the house of Mary’ done in 1654-5, is not as famous as those painted from 1668 to 1675. Vermeer died in December 1675 at the age of 43.

I think Vermeer painted what was I front of him, as if recording his life in his paintings. He painted women in interiors; relaxing , reading letters or engaged in dramatic or private tasks. He may have also worked in the way he did because of inspiration gained from numerous artists who visited an inn called ‘Mechelen’, inherited from his father in 1652. In addition, there is the suggestion that Vermeer

Dress making: Take one

Well this is proving to be more tricky than I first thought, I knew it was going to be hard but not this hard. Reading patterns is becoming a pet hate for me, they are definitely not simple. However I have found a book that explains it all (well enough to make it seem less impossible) called “The Sewing Book” by Alison Smith. She breaks everything you could think off in terms of sewing into friendly chunks.

From making the top sections of the main bodice, I realised that I understood how to make a corset quite quickly, it’s all in the layers. Once the concept is grasps you can be well away like was, until you realise you no longer fit the dress.
